Recently, I had an epiphany or little mental episode when I realized that this world is heavily discriminatory towards single women. You can own a business, birth as many kids as your soul produces, have multiple degrees, plain and simply — just have your ‘ish together and somebody will have a problem with it.

I don’t know if it’s specific to race but I can confirm that being African American doesn’t help. Whether it be at work, from a suitor, family or whomever, somebody always has something to say or a need to put the single woman in her place.

What’s the deal? We go to work and go home to our homes ALONE by choice, most of the time. Why? Because that’s what we do. That’s the lifestyle we have afforded ourselves. It just happens to be a chapter in the story of lives that we have written, and maybe even all that we may ever know. Stop judging a person by where you found them in their walk!

Coming from a single woman to another or whoever is reading this, we don’t owe you ‘ish! We deserve to make our money, eat it and wear it, too (or for some of y’all drive it or drape it all over yourself or loved ones). Peace!
