Have you ever heard that saying “Never cast your pearls before swine”? It’s in the bible (right at the beginning of Matthew 7 just behind a few passages on being judgmental).

It is derived from the scripture Matthew 7:6 which says — “Do not give what is holy to the dogs; nor cast your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you in pieces.” (New King James Version)

It is a reminder and a cautionary tale that preludes to the behaviors of those unworthy of our time, gifts and affections, that may not be on our level or generally are not “good people”.

I’ve talked a lot about the fear instilled in me from relationships of my past, but I am also aware of how it feels to often meet new people, who may not be who they say they are, are not anywhere near where you are in life, or plain and simple, are people with whom you should not exchange much of anything in depth, outside of an introduction.

I remember being warned/told in my twenty’s to “Make your money and go home!” People are a trip these days and they do not care how much you’ve invested in yourself. They’ll have you summed up and be ready to tell you what you don’t deserve in a heartbeat.

No matter how hard you try, the gifts or talents that you bear or even the rooms that you enter, they are not meant for you to share with everyone that you meet. Truthfully, everyone is not worthy of getting to know the “real” you. They say your gifts can take your name places that you’ve never imagined, in part by the relationships that you entertain but they don’t warn you enough about the damage that can be done to your name by the fruitless…
